Lazio: a tour among nature, history and gastronomy - 8 days


 


Day 1: Transfer of guests from the airport to Ostia antica to visit the roman ruins and to Santa severa to discover the Sea Museum. Arrive in Tarquinia and room accommodation in a wonderful Agriturismo: welcome dinner.

 

Day 2: After breakfast departure for the luxuriant and volcanic Bolsena lake and visit of he town of Bolsena, on the north-east coast, to admire the wonderful lake view from Monaldeschi Castle where it’s also possible to visit the local Museum; light lunch in one of the best Estate of Viterbo District. Afternoon to Montefiascone to visit a producer of the famous and ancient Est Est Est wine, preserved in two little cellars. Wine lesson in the estate. Visit of an artisan specialized in working the wood. Return to Tarquinia for relax and typical seasonal dinner.

 

Day 3: Breakfast and departure for Bomarzo for a visit of the ancient castle at the top of the medieval village and for a natural walk through the “Sacro Bosco” (sacred wood) that is better known as “Parco dei mostri” (Monsters’ Park) where the monsters are made of volcanic rock and are located all around the park; lunch-picnic on your own. Transfer to Tuscania and Tarquinia to visit the necropolis and Etruscan remains. In the late afternoon course on local craftsmanship in the hotel to learn the ceramics techniques. Dinner in local restaurant with typical seasonal menu and return to the hotel.

 

Day 4: a daily country day to discover the real life of the estate of the University, between animals, olive oils and wood. Light lunch with a typical Butteri Menu. In the afternoon the guests will attend a cooking lesson to learn a seasonal menu. Dinner with the learned menu.

 

Day 5: Breakfast, check in and transfer to Frascati to admire the wonderful cathedral; short excursion to the beautiful 18th century Villa Aldobrandini and its park. Free time for lunch. In the early afternoon transfer to Grottaferrata to visit the farm factory Castel de Paolis for a short seminar on tasting of the roman castles’ wines. En-route stop at the catacombs and transfer to Veroli for hotel accommodation and dinner in a typical restaurant.

 

Day 6: Breakfast in hotel, meeting with the guide and walk through the historical centre of Veroli, ancient and fascinating town, surrounded by huge walls, where it’s possible to admire the only example of a stone roman calendar. Excursion to the famous Gothic Casamari Abbey, one of the best preserved monastery in Italy, and its rooms such as a distillery that still produces excellent liqueurs, the cloister and the library. In the late morning transfer to Alatri, one of the Ciociaria towns most rich in history, to visit the acropolis, surrounded by huge and well preserved walls, the cathedral with its majestic 17th century faςade and Palazzo Gentili sun-dial. Visit of an oil mill to approach to the harvesting and milling techniques of the olives; tasting of the delicious olive oil. Lunch on your own. In the early afternoon departure for Fumone for a short walk through the romantic, medieval town to discover the spell and misteries of its castle. En-route stop at Anagni, medieval town and past residence of 4 popes, which is famous for its splendid Romanesque cathedral and the crypt that is also called the medieval “Sistina Chapel” because of its wonderful frescoes. Dinner in typical restaurant and return to Veroli.

 

Day 7: Breakfast and departure to Piglio: a walk in the medieval village and stop to discover the Way of the Cesanese and Piglio wines, in a local cellar. Visit of the Wynyard and of the cellar, to deeply enter in the rural world of the Local wines. Light lunch in the estate, with a seasonal menu. In the afternoon short excursion to Fiuggi, well known spa, with  oligomineral water, famous for the light quantity of mineral salts. Relax walk in the Terme. In the late afternoon transfer to Collepardo to know the old secret of the production of the original Sambuca, one of the Italian most exported liquors in the world. Born at the beginning of  ‘800, into the old Pharmacy, closet to the Certosa di Trisulti. Return to Veroli and dinner with typical menu.

 

Day 8: Transfer to the airport; departure of the guests. End of the tour.
